Troop 212 Scouts, Scouters, and Parents!

We are heading in to a busy time of year for the troop. November is always hectic but exciting, with plenty of opportunities!

1) Our main fundraising for the year is “Luminaries”. You have received some, and will receive more, information about this required fundraiser for Troop 212.   Thank you to Mrs. Young and Mrs. Somer for running this event this year!

This is a Town of Cary/Apex/Morrisville Holiday tradition in putting out these candles next to their driveway or street on Christmas Eve.

There are 4 Mandatory events:

November 19, Sandbagging
November 22, Pick Sticks
December 3, Luminary assembly night (a 3 hour meeting, from 6pm to 9pm)
December 6, Luminary Delivery

I know to many of you this is new vocabulary, but it will be clear in short order, and we will help you along the way!
NO service hours are given for these events, as it is a required troop fundraising event.

2) Court of Honor:  November 12
In addition to Rank Advancement and Merit Badges, this is the night where scouts and families choose their neighborhoods for Pick Sticks and Luminary Delivery
We will also be describing the Luminary Process
We will begin collecting money for Rechartering (when you sign up for another exciting year with Troop 212!)
We will present the January trip, The family Ski Trip to Winterplace WV
We will present the December trip, Indoor rock climbing at Triangle Rock Club in Morrisville
We will be collecting donations for a food drive as well (more to follow)
It will be a busy night, and everyone should plan to attend.

3) Service opportunities
December 13, 8am to 10am: Jesse Tree Project, St. Michael’s
Each year we help move donated gifts from the Archangel Center to the Parish Center at St. Michael’s, and set up tables, for other volunteers to sort and assign gifts.
This year’s event will be December 13, and will give scouts 1-2 hours of service for a great cause!
There will be at least 2 Eagle projects to be completed in the next month.
There are numerous opportunities within churches and civic groups this time of year. Just be sure to get your service time “approved” with a Scoutmaster!

4) Camping Trips
This weekend, Fishing trip to Camp Grimes and a Trout Farm
Thank you Mr. Abood and Mr. Young for organizing!
It will be COLD. Plan gear appropriately. There is a hot shower on site… for those who bring a towel.
Freshly baked brownies for the winning iron chef competition!!
December 6, 9pm to December 7, early morning
Triangle Rock Club, climbing lock in. New and renovated, there is now a rappelling wall!
Thank you Mr. Vasarhelyi for running this event again!
January, 2015
The troop goes again to Winterplace for family skiing!  Families are welcome to join (includes siblings) Sleeping is on-site at the ski resort to the first 80 registrants who pay their deposit or full amount.  Sign-ups will begin in December, as we need to collect at least 50% fees by mid December.
Thank you Mr. Dickerson for running the trip!

5) Rechartering
Rechartering in scouts means signing up for the next scouting year.
Includes paying your yearly fee, some of which goes to National BSA, some supports troop activities
Includes updating your family demographics and vehicle information
Will need to be complete by December 10.

So do you see why we recommend selling popcorn!
